Doctor Wasabi is an artist in his second spring. Musically deeply grounded in the 80s, his love for electronic pop music is re-flourishing today. With this eruptive emotional power, he piles up factual and refined synth sounds and drives his arrangements almost to the point of being danceable – only to tear down these interwoven sound-constructs as you feel a first familiarization.

In his compositions, Doctor Wasabi likes to thematize getting older, describes gloomy mental states or extols the greatness of his own songs. In doing so, he easily goes unorthodox paths in the implementation, e.g., when he uses a video game console to generate sounds. But his art is by no means retro – at least not from the doctor’s point of view. Because sounds and beats are just tools for him that he cleverly uses to accomplish his actual mission: namely, finding the ultimate pop melody. A melody that enchants its listeners and will accompany them for a lifetime.

In seinen Kompositionen thematisiert Doctor Wasabi gerne das Älterwerden, beschreibt düstere Seelenzustände oder preist die Großartigkeit seiner eigenen Songs. Dabei geht er in der Umsetzung auch ohne weiteres unorthodoxe Pfade, wenn er z.B. eine Videospielkonsole zur Klangerzeugung einsetzt. Aber retro ist seine Kunst ganz und gar nicht – jedenfalls nicht aus Sicht des Doctors. Denn Sounds und Beats sind für ihn nur Werkzeuge, die er geschickt einsetzt, um seine eigentliche Mission zu erfüllen: Nämlich das Auffinden der ultimativen Pop-Melodie. Eine Melodie, die seine Zuhörer verzaubert und ein Leben lang begleiten wird.
